Shane Beamer walked into his house right around 2 a.m., fresh off South Carolina’s win over Texas A&M. Then his phone started to buzz.

It was a recruit who watched the Gamecocks’ game and environment and wanted to talk with Beamer about it.

“That tweet I sent out earlier was true. I had a recruit call me at 2 a.m. last night he was so excited and wanted to talk about the game,” Beamer said. “Luckily I had just got home at that point so I was still up. It’s pretty awesome.”

Beamer made sure to let the fan base know how good of a day it was for recruiting. He tweeted Sunday night how excited he was to see all of the phone calls and texts from recruits wanting to talk about last night’s game.

And it’s a testament to how positive a recruiting day it was for the Gamecocks, who hosted a handful of major visitors in one of the biggest South Carolina home games of the season.

The Gamecocks had a slew of priority targets on campus Saturday. They all got to a 30-24 South Carolina win in a raucous, sold-out environment.

Winning helps, but an atmosphere like that goes a long way as well.

“It can do so much. We had so many prospects there last night and many watching on TV who want to play in an environment like that. They see the passion and love and energy our players play with. And they want to be a part of (it),” Beamer said. “Certainly, when you’re able to win and have success it helps anyone. But when you’re able to do it in a fantastic environment like we had last night, it makes it even better. “

On3 ranks the Gamecocks’ 2023 recruiting class No. 17 nationally and the seventh-best in the SEC.

South Carolina has 20 commitments currently with 55 percent of those considered blue-chip prospects. Ten of those commitments land in the On3 consensus top 400, headlined by four-star offensive lineman Markee Anderson.

The Gamecocks are still trying to build out their recruiting class. Beamer thinks more atmospheres and results like that can go a long way.

“We have some fantastic young men committed to us and fantastic young men we’re recruiting and trying to make Gamecocks,” he said. “Last night was a really, really, really big step in the right direction.”
