Former South Carolina defensive back getting new NFL contract

Former South Carolina football defensive back Chris Lammons is getting another NFL opportunity. According to reports from 247Sports’ Tom Loy and Matt Zenitz, the Gamecock alum will sign a new deal with the Indianapolis Colts. Lammons, who spent the previous two seasons in Indy, will return to the Colts after being waived this winter. The move is pending a physical.
Lammons is entering his eighth overall season in the NFL. He began his professional career bouncing around practice squads with the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints before catching on with the Miami Dolphins. He spent two years in Miami before latching on with the Kansas City Chiefs for four seasons. A brief stint with the Cincinnati Bengals then preceded his time with the Colts.

During his South Carolina career, Lammons was a versatile and gritty defensive back. He began his career as a corner but transitioned to a hybrid safety/corner role under head coach Will Muschamp. He made a game-saving play against Tennessee in 2017, coming down into man coverage on 3rd-and-goal from the 2-yard line, knocking away a pass in the end zone on the game’s final play.
Lammons did not hear his name in the 2018 NFL Draft but has played in 60 games as a professional. That includes two starts (both with the Indianapolis Colts) over the past two years.
