SEC quarterback says he has South Carolina game circled on calendar

South Carolina football begins its season on August 31st with a non-conference game against the Virginia Tech Hokies. It will be a solid test for the Gamecocks and a good measuring stick to see if the team could be ready to take a step forward following a strong 2024 campaign. Ironically, the Vanderbilt Commodores play Virginia Tech the next week before a matchup between Carolina and Vandy opens SEC play. (USC will play South Carolina State in the week between.)
Not only will that contest be a big deal as it starts SEC play, but according to Vanderbilt starting quarterback Diego Pavia, it’s one the Commodores are eager to play.

In an appearance on the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, hosts Taylor Lewan and Will Compton asked Pavia, “Which of these games is circled?” After an initial deflection–Pavia stated that he didn’t want to give an opponent any “fuel”–he admitted that the answer was “week three.” South Carolina and Vanderbilt will meet at Williams-Brice Stadium on September 13th in the third game of the season. The game will be at night, slotting in at primetime at 7:00 or 7:45 p.m. on ESPN or SEC Network.
Last year, South Carolina comfortably beat Vanderbilt in Nashville by a score of 28-7. The ‘Dores were No. 24 in the rankings at the time, but the Gamecocks took their spot in the top 25 after the win. In the game, Pavia scored Vandy’s only touchdown on a 17-yard scramble. However, he went just 16-for-31 as a passer for 166 yards. Thanks to the victory, Carolina extended their winning streak in the series to 16 games in a row. For context, USC hasn’t lost to Vanderbilt since George W. Bush was president.
