Former South Carolina OC gets new local coaching gig

Former South Carolina offensive coordinator GA Mangus has a new gig. On Thursday, Brookland-Cayce High School announced that Mangus was joining their football staff as offensive coordinator. Mangus makes the move over from Hammond School. He coached at Hammond for two years and Heathwood Hall the season prior. He also has spent some time coaching at the college level at Florida, Widener, Ursinus, Delaware Valley, Middle Tennessee State, South Carolina State, and Kutztown.
Mangus was one of multiple coaching hires at BC announced on Thursday. He joins former CA Johnson head coach Scotty Dean as a part of new head coach Louis Clyburn’s staff. Like Mangus, Clyburn is moving from one Columbia-area school to another as he comes from the Camden Bulldogs staff.

During his South Carolina football days, Mangus worked several jobs in garnet and black for head coach Steve Spurrier. Over his seven years with the Gamecocks, he led the quarterbacks and tight ends at different times and finished as the team’s offensive coordinator.
While in Columbia, Mangus helped coach quarterbacks like Connor Shaw, Stephen Garcia, and Dylan Thompson. He worked alongside head coach Steve Spurrier and fellow co-offensive coordinators Steve Spurrier, Jr. and Shawn Elliott to orchestrate some of the top offenses in USC history. South Carolina also had its best-ever four-year stretch from 2010-2013 while Mangus was on staff. The Gamecocks won the SEC East in 2011 before three consecutive 11-win campaigns from 2011 to 2013.
