Resume dive into new South Carolina OC Kendal Briles
On Thursday morning, South Carolina officially hired Kendal Briles as the team’s new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Briles is one of the most successful full-time offensive coordinators of the last decade. Gamecock fans are hopeful he can inject some life into an offense that was as good as dead in 2025.
Below is a look at Briles’ coaching resume.

2015 Broyles Award Finalist; 2013 and 2014 Big 12 Recruiter of the Year; Coached 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III (who also won 2011 Davey O’Brien); Coached Biletnikoff winner Corey Coleman in 2015 and Biletnikoff finalist Terrance Williams in 2012
At Baylor, Briles coached future NFL starting wide receivers Kendall Wright, Josh Gordon, and Terrance Williams while leading the wide receiver room. He was also the team’s run game coordinator when they had two 800-yard rushers (one running back and one quarterback) in 2008 and a 1200-yard rusher in 2010. In his fourth year leading wide receivers, Baylor had four receivers with at least 500 yards, including one 1600-yard pass-catcher. They also had a 1500-yard rusher. Quarterback Robert Griffin III won the Heisman Trophy that season.
Following his shift to passing game coordinator in 2012, quarterback Nick Florence threw for 4300 yards, Terrance Williams logged 1832 receiving yards, and Tevin Reese and Lanear Sampson combined for over 1600 yards and 17 TDs. Bryce Petty was then a more efficient version of Florence in 2013. That offense had five 500-yard receivers en route to leading the country in total offensive yards per game. In 2014, Petty was nearly as good despite dealing with some injuries, and two receivers went over 1000 yards. Baylor was a top-five scoring offense each year from 2012 to 2015, including leading the nation for three consecutive years.
As full-time offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Briles led Baylor to over 600 yards per game in 2015, despite two quarterbacks having to play. He helped Corey Coleman become the Biletnikoff winner with over 1300 receiving yards, and both Shock Linwood and Johnny Jefferson rushed for over 1000 yards. In 2015, Baylor led the nation in scoring average and total offense per game. With his father (Art Briles) no longer the head coach in 2016, Kendal Briles still led a strong offense. Two quarterbacks combined to throw for over 3600 yards and 33 touchdowns. Three receivers and four backs (three running backs, one quarterback) went for over 500 yards on the year.
With Briles calling plays, Baylor set all-time NCAA bowl records in back-to-back years. Following the 2014 season, the Bears racked up 601 passing yards against Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl. The next year, Baylor ran for 645 yards (with another NCAA bowl record of 756 total yards) against North Carolina in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Florida Atlantic/Houston/Florida State, 2017-2019
2017: Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach (Florida Atlantic)
2018: Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach (Houston)
2019: Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach (Florida State)
Coached 2018 Manning Award finalist D’Eriq King
2017: 498.2 yards per game; 213.1 passing yards per game, 285.1 rushing yards per game; 40.6 points per game (Florida Atlantic)
2018: 512 yards per game; 295.5 passing yards per game, 216.5 rushing yards per game; 43.6 points per game (Houston)
2019: 408.3 yards per game; 267.6 passing yards per game, 140.7 rushing yards per game; 27.9 points per game (Florida State)
Briles helped improve an FAU offense that averaged 398 yards and 26.4 points per game in 2016 to a group that averaged 498.2 yards and 40.6 points per game in 2017. Devin Singletary rushed for a conference-leading 1920 yards and 32 touchdowns. The rushing attack was top 10 in college football, and so was the Owls’ ability to put up points. Head coach Lane Kiffin famously let Briles run the offense completely, even though he had (very successfully) called plays at Alabama the three seasons before.
With Houston, Briles oversaw a similar improvement from 2017 to 2018. The Cougars went from 428.2 yards and 28.2 points per game in 2017 to 512 yards and 43.9 points per game. Dual-threat quarterback D’Eriq King had nearly 3700 yards and 50 total touchdowns in just 11 games. Houston was a top-10 national offense in both average yards gained and scoring average.
A bad Florida State offense became relevant in Briles’ only year in Tallahassee. Moving from 21.9 points and 360 yards per game, the Seminoles posted 408.3 yards and 27.9 points per game in 2019, despite a bad quarterback situation. Running back Cam Akers was an All-ACC contributor with over 1350 yards and 18 touchdowns.

In 2020, quarterbacks Feleipe Franks and KJ Jefferson combined for over 2750 yards and 23 touchdowns with just four interceptions. The team’s yardage output was about 50 yards better than in 2019, and scoring output improved by four points per game.
Things ticked up again in 2021, as Jefferson and future South Carolina star Rocket Sanders emerged. Four players ran for at least 500 yards, as Arkansas was second nationally in rushing offense.
In 2022, Arkansas posted a top-10 national rushing attack. Sanders ran for over 1400 yards and 10 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Jefferson had nearly 3300 total yards and 33 scores, despite missing two games. The Hogs managed over 450 yards and 44 points against South Carolina in 2022.

TCU, 2023-2025
2023-2025: Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach
2023: 466.7 yards per game; 312.2 passing yards per game, 154.5 rushing yards per game; 31.3 points per game
2024: 426.8 yards per game; 312.9 passing yards per game, 113.9 rushing yards per game; 33.5 points per game
2025: 425.3 yards per game; 292.8 passing yards per game, 132.6 rushing yards per game; 30.8 points per game
Though the 2023 TCU team didn’t make it to the College Football Playoff like the 2022 squad, Briles’ offense actually logged more yardage than the previous year. Josh Hoover and Chandler Morris had over 3700 yards passing. TCU had a top-10 national passing offense that season.
In 2024, Hoover threw for just a touch below 4000 yards. Four receivers cracked 600 yards on the year, including over 1000 from Jack Bech. Cam Cook found the end zone nine times despite a bad year from the offensive line. For the second year in a row, the Horned Frogs ranked in the top 10 in passing.
For the 2025 campaign, Hoover threw for nearly 3500 yards, including over 1100 to Eric McAlister. Fellow receivers Jordan Dwyer and Joseph Manjack also combined for nearly 1300 yards.
