Former South Carolina football star joins new NFL team

On Monday, former South Carolina football star Kevin Harris found a new NFL home.
Following three years with the New England Patriots, Harris will suit up with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the rest of the preseason, fighting for a chance to make the team’s 53-man roster. The Jaguars announced they had signed Harris and offensive lineman Jerome Colvin and waived receiver Darius Lassiter and defensive lineman Eli Mostaert in corresponding moves.
The free agent signing puts Harris with a Jacksonville team that ranked 26th in the NFL in rushing last season. Young backs Tank Bigsby and Travis Etienne expect to lead the way for the Jaguars. However, Harris has a chance to compete with rookie Bhayshul Tuten for the third spot.
Former Gamecock Dennis Daley was with Jacksonville earlier this offseason but retired after six years in the NFL.
During three seasons in New England, Harris saw limited snaps. He ran the ball 34 times in 2022 and 2023 and found the end zone twice. Then, in 2024, he didn’t see any game action.

While in garnet and black, Harris was an All-SEC performer. He led the conference in rushing during the 2020 regular season. Despite playing fewer than three full seasons with the Gamecocks, he ranks tied for seventh in career rushing touchdowns. In just 10 games in his 2020 campaign, Harris rushed for 1138 yards and 15 touchdowns; both numbers are good for top five marks in program history.
Harris is the only South Carolina rusher ever to post multiple 200-yard performances in the same season. He also is the only Gamecock to rush for five touchdowns in one game.
