South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers nearing return to Gamecocks for 2026
South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is nearing a return to the Gamecocks in 2026 for his redshirt junior season, per a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel. On3’s Pete Nakos then shared a similar report.
GamecockCentral’s Chris Clark also reported on Saturday that Sellers has consistently made it clear behind the scenes that he desired to return.
A Sellers return would mean turning down significant NFL Draft interest and spurning national media-driven transfer portal rumors to stay in Columbia.
A long list of NFL Draft projections included Sellers over the last year. Some of those listed the Gamecock starter as high as No. 1 overall. More recent mock drafts saw some variance in Sellers’ stock. Even so, ESPN’s Mel Kiper recently listed Sellers as QB3 ahead of next April’s draft, firmly in first-round range.

The Insiders Forum: Discuss South Carolina football!
There has been quiet optimism within the South Carolina program regarding Sellers’ return for some time. The 6-3, 245-pound QB has loved representing his home state. He also expressed this offseason that the best way to bounce back from a 4-8 2025 season is to work hard in the offseason leading up to 2026.
Sellers, a 2024 All-SEC performer, will look to return to that level of play again in 2026. South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer brought in new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kendal Briles. During his introductory press availability, Briles said he wanted to mold the Gamecock offense around Sellers’ impressive skillset.
During his South Carolina football career, Sellers has logged 6073 total yards and 46 total touchdowns. He has thrown for a 63.4% completion efficiency and thrown for 24 40-yard gains in 24 starts. He also has a 75-yard touchdown run and three fourth-quarter, game-winning drives to his credit.
