South Carolina moving up again in Massey Ratings
South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer has led his Gamecocks on a fierce climb up the rankings. This week, USC is No. 16 in the AP Poll and No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The College Football Playoff Ranking, though, split the difference at No. 15. The team’s five-game winning streak has moved them from 3-3 and an afterthought nationally to right in the thick of the College Football Playoff race.
Certain metrics like the Gamecocks even more than the human polls. One, the Massey Ratings, moved South Carolina up to No. 13 in the country this week. The Massey Ratings, in conjunction with On3, rank every team in college football based on game outcomes, location, and schedules.

The Gamecocks’ 13th ranking is two spots above where they were last week. Carolina is ranked 6th among SEC teams after jumping the Texas A&M Aggies.
South Carolina’s spot in the rankings has come because of their efficiency ratings and strength of schedule. USC now is 19th in Massey’s offensive rating metric and 21st in the defensive metric. Shane Beamer’s group also has the 10th-rated strength of schedule according to the Massey Ratings. The Gamecocks hold a No. 16 Massey Power Ranking.

Over the past two months or so, South Carolina football has moved from 31st overall according to Massey to the No. 13 spot. That jump has come, in large part, thanks to winning five games in a row, including three against Massey top-21 teams, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
