Urban Meyer, Mark Ingram interview LaNorris Sellers, predict good season for South Carolina

Shane Beamer’s South Carolina football team has picked up a fair amount of hype this offseason. That continued last week as three-time national championship-winning coach Urban Meyer and Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram spoke well of the Gamecocks and starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers on their podcast, The Triple Option.
The podcast started with a recording of Ingram and third host Rob Stone interviewing Sellers. During that conversation, Sellers downplayed the hype surrounding himself and the program. He said that the Gamecocks are trying to “not focus on it too much,” instead, intentionally working to improve so that they can “keep winning…we’ve just got to keep it up, bring it again this season.” If they do that, Sellers says, the College Football Playoff is “definitely” in play for South Carolina.
As an individual player, Sellers told Ingram and Stone that he’s dedicated himself to fixing “the small things” this offseason. “Anticipation, footwork, and all that, I’m just building off of the mistakes from last year, trying to fix them so that I can be better at them for this year.”
Ingram also dropped an interesting statistical nugget into the conversation. Joining Jalen Hurts and Johnny Manziel, Sellers became the third freshman ever to throw for 2500 yards and rush for 500 yards.

As the recording ended, Meyer, Ingram, and Stone transitioned to their South Carolina football preview. The trio is relatively high on the Gamecocks and believes USC could make some noise in the race for the College Football Playoff. Breaking down the entire schedule, they concluded that an 8-4 or 9-3 regular season felt most likely.

After predicting a strong year for the Gamecocks, Meyer said, “If you stick South Carolina in another conference, they’d be pushing double-digit wins more often. They’re just stuck in a [tough] conference.” Ingram agreed. “I’ve got them going over (the betting market’s over/under total of) 7.5 because of LaNorris Sellers.”
Despite his natural homer-ism for his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide, Ingram was somewhat hesitant to say that the Gamecocks wouldn’t avenge their 2024 loss to ‘Bama. “It’s at South Carolina! That’s a tricky place to play…I was No. 1 in the country, went to South Carolina, got ambushed. So, that’s not an easy place to go play.”
Meyer agreed with that take. “Mark, I’ll say this: I like their coach. And I think it’s the most underrated place in college football to play. That stadium? Wow. Williams-Brice…I’m telling you, that is one of the great places to go. Well, not as an opposing coach because I used to hate going there. Great fans, great stadium.”
