South Carolina football to debut new end zones this weekend

This Saturday, South Carolina will play host to the SC State Bulldogs for the team’s first home game of the season. SC State, the preseason favorite to win the MEAC, will travel up I-26 from Orangeburg to Columbia for a contest under the lights at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Ahead of that in-state showdown, the Gamecocks will debut new end zone designs.

With social media posts on Thursday afternoon, USC revealed that both end zones will be painted garnet. The usual text in the end zone will be solid white. One side will say “Carolina,” while the other says “Gamecocks.” However, at the start of each word will be palmetto trees. Previously, the palmettos had been at the 25-yard line. Now, the Gamecocks have a Blanchard Machinery logo there as part of a major on-field sponsorship.

Several other aesthetic changes to Williams-Brice have been teased in recent weeks, but the University has not officially revealed them all.

USC announced earlier this week that Saturday’s game is a sellout. South Carolina students also requested a record 21,000 student tickets for the contest against SC State.

The Gamecocks and Bulldogs will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The game will not air on national television but will stream on ESPN+.
