South Carolina football's quarterback room ranked as one of nation's best

South Carolina football redshirt sophomore LaNorris Sellers is one of the best players in the country. However, he isn’t the only talented quarterback on the roster. With a four-man scholarship group of Sellers, Luke Doty, Air Noland, and Cutter Woods, the Gamecocks own one of the deepest and most talented quarterback rooms they’ve ever had. Not only will the position be a strength this fall, but the future looks bright, too.
In their preseason preview of the 2025 college football season, Athlon Sports ranked the top 10 quarterback groups in the country. South Carolina made the cut. Slotting in at No. 4, the Gamecocks trailed only the Texas Longhorns, Clemson Tigers, and LSU Tigers.

Let’s take a brief look at each of the young men in offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Shula’s unit.
LaNorris Sellers: QB1 for the Gamecocks and potentially QB1 in the entire country, Sellers was a four-star, top-10 national quarterback prospect in the class of 2023. After sitting a year behind Spencer Rattler, Sellers took over. He took a few weeks to gain his footing, but by the end of the season, No. 16 had become one of the top players in the sport.
Luke Doty: A former four-star, top-100 national prospect, Doty has moved back and forth between the quarterback room and wide receiver group during his time in Columbia. He has started games under center, been the backup, been deep on the bench, and been a rotational receiver. Heading into 2025, he is probably the No. 2 man on the depth chart.
Air Noland: Noland was a borderline five-star prospect in the 2024 class who redshirted last year at Ohio State. The transfer portal brought him to South Carolina, and he will compete for the backup job behind Sellers this season. Meanwhile, the lefty will develop and battle for a starting job that could be open next season if Sellers makes his way to the NFL.

Cutter Woods: An underrated three-star player in the 2025 cycle, Woods has impressed in early returns at USC. Strong winter workouts and nice flashes in the Garnet and Black Spring Game have Gamecock fans hopeful about his future. With Doty and Noland around, a redshirt could be in Woods’ best interest, but he’s a talented arm to watch.

Redshirt freshman walk-on Jimmy Francis is also part of the 2025 roster. Moving forward, the Gamecocks have a couple of talented quarterbacks on their recruiting board.
In the class of 2026, four-star Landon Duckworth is the top quarterback target for South Carolina. The Alabama native is deciding between USC and the Auburn Tigers. Following his time at the Elite 11 Finals in California this week, he will return to Columbia for one final unofficial visit ahead of a July decision.
In the class of 2027, South Carolina has offered seven players at the quarterback position. So far, four-star Trent Seaborn has been the one who appears to be the top target. In the ’28 cycle, three quarterbacks have earned early scholarship offers from the Gamecocks.
