South Carolina football's Rahsul Faison cleared for practice
South Carolina football fans were alarmed on Friday that transfer running back Rahsul Faison was not present for the first practice of fall camp. Faison, who rushed for over 1100 yards last season at Utah State, has been in a back-and-forth battle with the NCAA over his eligibility. At this time, he is still waiting on a final ruling regarding his status for the 2025 season.
According to initial updates from Faison’s attorney, Darren Heitner, the four-star transfer portal addition would not practice until receiving clearance from the NCAA. That marked a change from a recent update in which Beamer told the media Faison would participate in fall camp “until somebody tells me otherwise.”
However, on Friday afternoon, things shifted again. Heitner told On3’s Pete Nakos that Faison had been officially approved to begin practicing with the Gamecocks. The news followed an update from Heitner in which the attorney said he was working on a practice waiver for Faison. The NCAA has approved that waiver request.

If made eligible for games, Faison figures to be a leading candidate to start at running back. He will continue competing with Oscar Adaway, Isaiah Augustave, Jawarn Howell, and Matthew Fuller for carries. Those same players will be the top options for snaps if Faison’s NCAA waiver is denied.

Adaway was the primary backup to Rocket Sanders in 2024 after transferring in from North Texas. Last fall, both Howell and Fuller played sparingly as redshirts. Augustave just joined the Gamecocks this summer following a transfer from Colorado.
South Carolina officially began fall camp on Friday. The Gamecocks will have 25 total opportunities to practice in the lead-up to the first game. Shane Beamer and his team will take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on August 31st.
