This week, on their College GameDay Podcast, ESPN college football analysts Rece Davis and Pete Thamel ranked their top five quarterbacks in the country. As expected, South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers made the cut. Both Davis and Thamel included Sellers on their lists.

According to Davis, Sellers is college football’s No. 4 quarterback. Davis had this to say about Sellers: “I was conflicted on him, as well, Pete, because I worry a little bit about their receivers. But maybe this year is that Nyck Harbor with all that size and speed comes to fruition. There’s so much–I’m not the first one to make this comparison–there’s so much Jalen Hurts in LaNorris Sellers.”

Thamel slots Sellers in one spot lower at No. 5 nationally. Said Thamel, “The combination of the growth we’ve seen already, his athleticism in being able to run the ball, the skill they’re going to have around him at South Carolina–I, quite frankly, think their defense is going to take a step back, and that’s going to necessitate him to score, and there’s going to be more of an onus on him to produce and to score.”

Sellers, entering his redshirt sophomore season this fall, is coming off of All-SEC and Freshman All-American honors last season. The Palmetto State native led South Carolina to the brink of the College Football Playoff field, as well. If he lives up to expectations and can help the Gamecocks take the next step to the playoff field, he certainly will have earned his lofty rankings from Davis and Thamel.

Sellers and South Carolina will open the 2025 season on Sunday, August 31st. The Gamecocks will do battle with the Virginia Tech Hokies in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. ESPN will broadcast the contest at 3:00 p.m.
