On Saturday, South Carolina football landed a commitment from 4-star linebacker Andrew Harris. On3’s Hayes Fawcett first reported the news. Harris’ decision comes in conjunction with a Gamecock commitment from his twin brother, 4-star defensive lineman Aiden Harris. Some in the recruiting industry view Andrew Harris as an EDGE, but USC defensive coordinator Clayton White has claimed him for the linebacker room as he begins his collegiate career.

The South Carolina coaching staff has done a good job prioritizing both players. Andrew is the second linebacker to commit to the Gamecocks this cycle, joining fellow hybrid player Keenan Britt. Carolina beat out Auburn, Penn State, Ohio State, and NC State for his services. The commitment comes on the heels of an official visit over the weekend, though, according to Aiden, the Harris brothers entered the visit already knowing their plans.

Andrew Harris has a prototypical linebacker frame already. Listed at 6-2 and 235 pounds, he profiles similarly to recent linebacker signings for the Gamecocks. That, coupled with plus-athleticism, makes him an intriguing player for future South Carolina defenses.

Harris told On3 in the fall that “most definitely the top part of [his] list” was a school’s development of linebackers and EDGE players. Gamecock defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Clayton White and defensive ends/outside linebackers coach Sterling Lucas are developmental coaches.

South Carolina had a linebacker taken in the 2nd round of the 2025 NFL Draft (Demetrius Knight) and another two who signed UDFA contracts (Debo Williams and Bam Martin-Scott). A Gamecock EDGE won the 2025 Bronko Nagurski Trophy and earned NFL Draft selection (Kyle Kennard), another signed an UDFA deal (Gilber Edmond), and another is one of the top returning players in college football (Dylan Stewart). It seems safe to say that South Carolina checked that box for Harris.

Harris is On3’s No. 296 overall prospect. He’s also No. 15 in a loaded class in North Carolina and No. 33 among EDGE players. If his rating of 89.91 remained unchanged, Harris would rank as the nation’s No. 20 linebacker.
