Four-star South Carolina commitment shuts down recruitment

On Friday night, four-star South Carolina football commitment Andrew Harris announced on social media that his recruitment is shut down. The North Carolina native will be a Gamecock. He originally committed to USC last month alongside his twin brother, Aiden Harris. Aiden also recently announced that his recruitment was 100% over.
Andrew Harris, rated by Rivals as an EDGE, will play linebacker for the Gamecocks. The Weddington High School product has played all over the front seven at the prep level but will be an off-ball player for defensive coordinator Clayton White’s unit.
Harris’ decision to shut down his recruitment doesn’t come as a shock. After his commitment in June, he told GamecockCentral that he already felt close with his future teammates. “What made me actually make my commitment was the players I’ve been around,” he said. “[It was] the people who I’m going to be around with on a daily basis, so that was really just something I took into consideration.”

Listed at 6-1 and 235 pounds, Harris already looks the part of a college linebacker. That will only be even more true as he continues to improve physically and makes the adjustment to his new position.

So far during his high school career, Harris has showcased some skills as an EDGE player that should translate nicely to the linebacker position. He moves well, and he has demonstrated impressive closing speed on outside run plays. That sideline-to-sideline potential will be needed at his new spot. South Carolina’s defensive staff likes to bring pressure from the linebacker positions, and with his history as a pass rusher, Harris likely will be an eventual candidate to help out in that regard, too.
Harris is one of two linebacker pledges in South Carolina’s 2026 class, joining Alabama native Keenan Britt. Like Harris, Britt will transition from being primarily an EDGE to the linebacker room at USC.
