Priority five-star South Carolina target sets commitment date

Priority South Carolina football recruiting target Darius Gray is nearing a decision. The five-star offensive line prospect recently trimmed his list of suitors down to five schools. On Saturday, the big fella told Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett that he will announce his college choice on August 22nd.
Gray has a list of finalists that includes the South Carolina Gamecocks, LSU Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Clemson Tigers. South Carolina and LSU appear to be at the top of that list, with both programs feeling optimistic about their chances to land the ferocious blocker. Gray, though, says all five of his finalists have a chance.

Gray has visited South Carolina more than any other school. In fact, he has racked up over 10 trips to Columbia throughout his recruitment. Most recently, he was on campus for his official visit in June. He visited at the same time as Gamecock commitments J’Zavien Currence, Jamel Howse, and Sequel Patterson. Four-star quarterback Landon Duckworth, who has since committed to Carolina, was on campus for an unofficial visit.

According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, Gray is the No. 1 interior offensive lineman in the country. He’s also the No. 31 recruit nationally, regardless of position, and No. 2 in Virginia. Listed at 6-2.5 and 285 pounds, Gray is incredibly athletic and boasts impressive strength for a high school lineman. He plays on both sides of the line of scrimmage for St. Christopher’s School in Richmond and is a standout on the basketball team. Last year, he won State Prep Player of the Year honors on the gridiron and the hardwood.
South Carolina has three offensive linemen committed so far in the class of 2026. Four-star tackle Kamari Blair and four-star interior lineman Zyon Guiles continue the Gamecocks’ streak of landing multiple blue-chip blockers. In-state interior lineman Anthony Baxter has a wide frame and some real upside, and he is the longest-tenured commit in the cycle.
