South Carolina target sets commitment date, names top five

South Carolina does not yet have a commitment in the class of 2027. However, Shane Beamer and company are hoping that will change soon. Over the weekend, four-star wide receiver Demarcus Brown announced that he would make his public college decision on Wednesday, December 4th. That is National Signing Day.

Brown also revealed his final five schools, and South Carolina made the cut. Joining the Gamecocks in the top five are the Virginia Cavaliers, Vanderbilt Commodores, Oklahoma Sooners, and West Virginia Mountaineers.

Virginia appears to have the momentum in Brown’s recruitment, but South Carolina has been a real factor for him since offering in June. He previously told Rivals that he loved the Gamecock culture under Beamer and that he felt he could grow “as a player, as a student, and as a person” at USC.

Brown took gameday visits this fall to four of his five finalists, including South Carolina.

Brown is a big, explosive playmaker. Standing 6-3, he has the size to play with physicality and high-point the football. He’s also a strong leaper, and he can run well.

Also a standout on the basketball court, Brown is a comfortable mover with good feet and instincts for “boxing out” defenders for position when the ball is in the air.

The Rivals Industry Ranking lists Brown as the country’s No. 331 overall prospect. He’s also No. 42 nationally among all receivers. Brown ranks 7th in the state of Virginia, regardless of position.

South Carolina has just one receiver pledged in the class of 2026 (four-star Sequel Patterson), so the Gamecocks could be interested in a bigger class in 2027. Brown is one of 13 public offers at the position in the ’27 cycle, according to the Rivals recruiting database.
