4-star South Carolina target sets decision date ahead of USC visit

The South Carolina football recruiting calendar is filling up. The Gamecocks will begin a busy summer with their official visit schedule starting this weekend. One of the highest-profile visitors who will be in town is 4-star cornerback Khary Adams.
Adams, a Townson, Maryland native, will take five official visits over the next five weeks. Then, he plans on announcing his college decision. According to a report from On3’s Chad Simmons, Adams plans to announce his commitment on June 28th. That announcement will follow OVs to South Carolina (May 30th), Michigan (June 6th), Notre Dame (June 13th), Penn State (June 16th), and Oregon (June 20th).
The On3 industry ranking considers Adams as the No. 65 overall prospect in the 2026 cycle. He’s also No. 8 among all national cornerbacks and No. 4 in a loaded Maryland class. As the No. 30 player in On3’s player rankings, he is a future 5-star candidate.

For most of Adams’ recruitment, the Gamecocks have slightly trailed. Penn State has been a steady presence at the top of his list, and Notre Dame, Michigan, and Oregon have pushed lately. South Carolina, though, will get the first opportunity to make another move with an official visit. He has been to Columbia previously on an unofficial visit.
Following an April decommitment from 4-star Peyton Dyer, South Carolina does not have any corners committed in the 2026 class. A safety, 4-star J’Zavien Currence, is the top committed player in the class. The Gamecocks are also in the mix for a couple of other talented secondary players. Cornerback Samari Matthews, athletic safety Jowell Combay, hybrid defensive back KJ Johnson, big safety Tamarion Watkins, and corner Kosci Barnes are among the names to watch as all five have official visits scheduled.
