Priority South Carolina target becomes five-star prospect

While class of 2026 recruiting is still going strong, teams are making significant moves in the 2027 cycle, as well. For Shane Beamer’s South Carolina team, one of the top targets on the board is offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.
This week, Hiller has pushed his way into five-star status in the Rivals Industry Ranking. Recent updates across the recruiting industry have seen the Pennsylvania native enter the top 10 nationally, regardless of position.
According to the updated Rivals Industry Ranking, Hiller is the No. 9 overall prospect in the class of 2027. He is No. 1 among interior offensive linemen (though some recruiting services rank him as an offensive tackle). He is also No. 2 in the state of Pennsylvania.
Hiller, a product of Coatesville Area Senior High School, has visited Columbia on multiple occasions. He has had nothing but positive things to say about the Gamecocks. He has built strong relationships with the coaching staff and has called South Carolina “a top, top school” in the running for his commitment.

After naming a top five of USC, Penn State, Clemson, Alabama, and Tennessee, Hiller told Rivals, “I feel like I fit in at South Carolina.” Maryland, Ohio State, and Georgia are among the other teams still involved, but the Gamecocks feel firmly within the top group.
A Polynesian Bowl All-American, Hiller has transitioned to left tackle during his junior season at Coatesville. He also has experience at right tackle and impressed at a South Carolina camp playing multiple spots.
Hiller is a basketball player, too, and he holds a college offer from La Salle. His younger brother Colton is a top 10 national wing prospect in the class of 2028.
