With South Carolina being on a bye this week, the Gamecock coaching staff has made a public push in recruiting. Several coaches, including head coach Shane Beamer, hit the road, and USC made multiple new scholarship offers. Among them was class of 2028 EDGE Patrick Shime.

Shime revealed the news on social media and shared that the Gamecock interest marked his first football scholarship offer.

Shime, a Washington, DC native, is a dual-sport athlete who also excels on the basketball court. He is 6-7 and was listed recently right around 200 pounds. His frame indicates he can easily carry more weight, and he is a smooth athlete who looks on film to have more explosion to unlock.

A standout at Gonzaga College High School in DC, Shime goes to the same school that also produced Gamecock sharpshooting wing Myles Stute.

South Carolina has done well recruiting in the DMV since head coach Shane Beamer took over ahead of the 2021 season. The EDGE position has been a particular strong point, as well, with position coach Sterling Lucas leading the way.

Current Gamecocks Dylan Stewart and Desmond Umeozulu were blue chip prospects in the 2024 and 2023 classes, respectively. Stewart was a five-star recruit, while Umeozulu held a four-star designation. Former five-star Nyck Harbor, who plays receiver at USC, was a high school EDGE in the ’23 cycle.

The Gamecocks hope to continue that recruiting success with Shime.

At the time of this writing, South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris has not offered Shime. However, he had a good summer on the court, and with a continuation of that this winter, his basketball recruitment could really pick up, as well.

Shime does not yet hold official Rivals recruiting ratings for basketball or football, but that could change in the not-too-distant future.
