South Carolina football makes top four for priority in-state four-star

On Wednesday, South Carolina football target Sequel Patterson told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that his recruitment is down to four schools. The Gamecocks made the cut for the in-state talent, alongside the Tennessee Volunteers, Georgia Bulldogs, and Kentucky Wildcats.
The Indian Land High School prospect owns over 20 power conference offers. South Carolina extended its offer during June of last year, following the conclusion of his freshman year of high school. The offer came just as his recruitment was blowing up with big-time schools. Patterson earned eight scholarship offers from power conference schools from April through July of 2024, including the ones from South Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
Listed at 6-0 and 170 pounds, Patterson is explosive and versatile. As a sophomore last fall, he logged over 1200 yards of offense as a receiver, rusher, and passer. On defense, he was a lockdown player on the outside of the Indian Land defense.

Patterson, who reclassified to the class of 2026 from 2027 less than a month ago, is a major target for South Carolina wide receivers coach and offensive passing game coordinator Mike Furrey. Listed as an athlete (wide receiver and defensive back) by the recruiting industry, the Gamecocks love the idea of him playing on offense in Columbia.

South Carolina signed four in-state receivers as part of a six-man class in 2025. However, the Gamecocks have been very selective this cycle. Furrey making Patterson a major emphasis shows just how good he thinks the Palmetto State native can be.
The On3 Industry Ranking–a weighted average of all four major recruiting services–considers Patterson the No. 220 overall prospect in the country for the 2026 class. He’s also No. 5 in the Palmetto State and No. 10 among players with the “athlete” designation. Prior to his reclassification, the On3 Industry Ranking had Patterson inside the top 100 overall in the 2027 cycle.
