Four-star South Carolina target moves up commitment announcement

Four-star South Carolina football recruiting target Somourian Wingo has changed his commitment timeline. Originally scheduled to make a private commitment sometime this week and a public announcement in August, Wingo will now announce his public pledge on Thursday at 2:00 p.m., he revealed.
Wingo, who took an official visit to Columbia the weekend of June 20th, will pick between South Carolina, Florida, and Miami. Since his visit, the Gamecocks have made a move in his recruitment. He told Rivals that USC “definitely stepped up” in recent weeks. Previously viewed by many as a distant third behind the two programs from the Sunshine State, Shane Beamer’s team now appears to be firmly in the mix. While Miami is still a finalist, most around the recruiting industry believe the two SEC programs are the favorites.

Listed at 6-3 and 180 pounds, Wingo has a nice blend of size and smooth athleticism. He can run past secondaries but plays with enough physicality to make plays on balls in the air, too. The St. Augustine High School product has the physical makeup of a good collegiate player.

The Rivals industry ranking slots Wingo in as the No. 139 overall player in the 2026 cycle. He’s also No. 20 nationally among wide receivers and No. 19 in the talent-laden state of Florida. With the latest updates to the recruiting rankings, all three major outlets (Rivals/On3, 247Sports, and ESPN) rate the talented pass-catcher as a four-star prospect and a top 171 overall player in the class.
South Carolina has one receiver already committed in the 2026 cycle. In-state four-star prospect Sequel Patterson reclassified from 2027 to join the Gamecock class.
