South Carolina commitment staying strong with Gamecocks, shuts down recruitment

South Carolina football commitment Triston Lewis is one of the more recent commitments in the Gamecocks’ class of 2026, having pledged his services to the program in July. Even so, the Greenwood High School product has been one of the most solidly committed players in the cycle.
He emphasized that point on Thursday night when he announced that he was shutting down his recruitment. Lewis revealed the news on social media while also thanking every school that offered him a chance to continue playing at the next level and anyone who had helped him through the recruiting process.
While Lewis’ commitment has been solid, it is a welcome sign for the Gamecocks to have him publicly shut things down. He has a high developmental upside and could turn some heads one day in garnet and black.
A 6-4, 200-pound athlete, Lewis will begin his career at South Carolina as a defensive back. He has the size, football IQ, and athletic ability to play corner, safety, or nickel at the next level. With his length and physicality, though, he seems like a perfect fit at safety for defensive backs coach Torrian Gray.

As a high school quarterback, Lewis is having a strong senior season at Greenwood. The Gamecocks have had several high school QBs in recent years convert to playing defense in Columbia. Most notably, Demetrius Knight and DQ Smith were high school quarterbacks who were starters on South Carolina’s defense.
Despite being an unranked prospect relatively recently, Lewis has moved up in the recruiting rankings rapidly since his USC pledge. The Rivals Industry Ranking now considers him to be the No. 759 overall player in the class of 2026. He’s also No. 22 nationally among players with the “athlete” designation. He is the No. 13 player, regardless of position, in the Palmetto State.
