Intriguing pass rusher adds South Carolina offer
Class of 2028 prospect Tyson Williams added an offer on Friday from South Carolina. Gamecocks defensive ends/outside linebackers coach and defensive run game coordinator Sterling Lucas offered Williams following a camp visit. Williams announced the offer on social media.
Listed at 6-4 and 215 pounds, Williams has a good frame for a player who just finished his freshman year of high school. He is a good athlete who also plays tight end at Shelby High School in North Carolina. The Gamecocks’ interest in Williams, based on Lucas’ offer, is for him to rush the passer.

Williams is a good athlete who can get upfield in a hurry when getting after the quarterback. He uses his length to envelope quarterbacks and other ballcarriers. Williams’ feet and agility are impressive for a young player, as well. He also has plenty enough juice to chase down plays from behind in pursuit.

Williams is a little thin still, so his efforts against the run have room for improvement. However, the Tar Heel State product has several plays on film in which he sets the edge well and makes a play to stifle an opponent’s attempt on the ground. As he adds size in a college weight room and refines his technique, Williams could become solid in that part of his game, too.
Williams, like the rest of the class of 2028, does not have an official recruiting ranking. That will come, though, as his recruitment continues to heat up. So far, he has earned other scholarship offers from Syracuse, East Carolina, and Gardner-Webb. Williams is the sixth class of 2028 EDGE player on South Carolina’s scholarship offer list.
