New South Carolina offensive coordinator Kendal Briles extends offer to four-star quarterback
South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer officially hired Kendal Briles as the program’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach last Thursday. Just a handful of days later, the new Gamecock playcaller made some recruiting news. Per a social media announcement from the prospect, Briles has offered four-star class of 2027 QB Weston Nielsen.
Nielsen, a product of Bastrop, Texas, recently committed to Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham. However, he has a link to Briles, as the Gamecock OC dispensed an offer to Nielsen back in February of 2024 when he was at TCU. His announced commitment to Arizona State followed Briles’ exit from Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs had been viewed as a potential suitor for his services.
In his offer announcement, Nielsen thanked Briles “for continuing to believe in me.”

As a junior, Nielsen was a dual-sport athlete who was a regional qualifier in the 4×400 relay in track and field. He is not an absolute burner, but Nielsen has enough speed to make defenses pay on the gridiron.
As a passer, the 6-1, 175-pounder can beat defenses from the pocket or on the run. He threw for over 3000 yards and accounted for 49 total touchdowns this fall. He can throw off-platform and from multiple arm angles.

According to the Rivals database, Nielsen has not visited South Carolina’s campus yet.
The Rivals Industry Ranking considers him the No. 269 overall prospect in the 2027 class. He is the No. 20 quarterback nationally and the No. 42 recruit, regardless of position, in the talent-loaded state of Texas.
South Carolina does not yet have a public commitment in the class of 2027. Nielsen is one of eight current quarterback offers out for the Gamecocks in the cycle but the first offered by Briles.
