Nation's No. 1 prospect heading to South Carolina this weekend

Zion Elee, On3’s No. 1 overall prospect, set six official visits this spring. The St. Frances Academy product scheduled trips to South Carolina, Auburn, Ohio State, Penn State, Texas A&M, and Maryland. However, as he was committed to his hometown Terrapins, he wound up canceling most of those visits. (He still made it in to visit Auburn and will take his trip to Maryland.) On Tuesday, though, he revealed he will make one final trip to Columbia after all.
According to a post on his Twitter/X account, Elee will be in the Midlands this weekend as part of the Fast Track Recruits’ annual bus tour. Following Virginia stops at Old Dominion and Norfolk State, the bus tour will arrive in Columbia on Saturday, June 14th. Elee will be in town for a camp. That means he will have the opportunity to spend time with some of the Gamecock coaching staff.
The only other stop on the bus tour that could be relevant to Elee’s recruitment is the last one. The tour concludes with a camp visit at Maryland next Friday.

As a player, Elee is a freak. At 6-3 and 230 pounds, he runs the 40-yard dash in the 4.3s and has a frame that could easily add weight without forfeiting athleticism. Elee makes offensive linemen look silly as they attempt to chase him around the edge. Then, when they start leaning one way to compensate, he turns speed into power and blows through blockers.

With talent like Elee’s, it is easy to see why the Gamecocks (and every other team in the country) have been interested in trying to pry him away from Maryland. South Carolina defensive ends/outside linebackers coach and defensive run game coordinator Sterling Lucas conducted an at-home visit with Elee this spring, long after his pledge to the Terrapins.
The 5-star EDGE remains committed to Maryland, but South Carolina will have one last chance to give him something to think about. Elee will be in town for one day before heading to the next stop on the tour at Wake Forest.
