Former South Carolina tight end joins Bill Belichick at UNC

On Wednesday, former South Carolina football tight end Connor Cox committed to Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels. He announced the move on social media.
Cox joins a UNC tight end room that will be coached by Freddie Kitchens, one of the coaches who helped recruit him originally to Columbia in the class of 2023.
During his time with the Gamecocks, Cox logged just one catch, a touchdown against Akron this fall. He saw some playing time in 2023, but it was primarily as a blocker. Because of a redshirt this season, he will have three more years to play in Chapel Hill.

Cox was joined in the transfer portal this offseason by fellow Gamecock tight ends Nick Elksnis and Reid Mikeska. At the time of this writing, Mikeska has not revealed a pledge to a new college program. Elksnis, though, announced a commitment to UNLV earlier on Wednesday. USC also is losing starter Josh Simon to graduation and the NFL.
In an effort to fill those scholarships in Shawn Elliott’s position room, the Gamecocks have added two new tight ends this offseason. Transfer portal tight end Jordan Dingle (Kentucky Wildcats) publicly committed on Wednesday. Class of 2025 Columbia native Mike Tyler joined the fold by flipping from LSU on National Signing Day.
