South Carolina will play its first SEC contest of the year on Saturday. A sold-out Williams-Brice Stadium will host the Vanderbilt Commodores for a 7:45 p.m. showdown under the lights. The game will air on SEC Network and will stream on the ESPN app.

The Gamecocks enter the Southeastern Conference battle ranked No. 11 in the AP top 25 but No. 10 in the USA Today coaches poll. Vanderbilt found itself in the “also receiving votes” section of both polls.

South Carolina charges into week three riding a 16-game winning streak over Vanderbilt. The streak dates back to 2009 and extends through four head coaches in Columbia (Steve Spurrier, interim Shawn Elliott, Will Muschamp, and Shane Beamer) and five in Nashville (Bobby Johnson, Robbie Caldwell, James Franklin, Derek Mason, and Clark Lea).

USC owns a 30-4 overall record against Vandy, the best mark of any SEC team against an in-conference opponent among teams that have played at least 30 times.

Last season, South Carolina wore a number of uniform combinations, not repeating one until the 11th game of the year. On Saturday, the Gamecocks will continue the trend of rocking new combinations in 2025. In fact, Carolina will wear a helmet-jersey-pants combination that they haven’t worn under Shane Beamer.

According to a social media post from the Gamecock Football social media account, the team will wear its garnet helmets with white facemasks. South Carolina debuted that helmet last season, beating Vanderbilt in Nashville while wearing it.

A couple of hours later, the media team revealed the entire gameday look.

South Carolina will wear the garnet helmet with garnet jerseys and white pants against Vanderbilt.

For those who believe in correlations between uniforms and wins and losses, the Gamecocks have only worn garnet helmets, garnet jerseys, and white pants one other time since Shane Beamer became the head coach (though the helmets’ facemasks were different). That game was a sleepy loss at home to Missouri in 2022.

The Gamecocks will look to reverse their G-G-W fortunes on Saturday. Vanderbilt has revealed that they will wear all white.
