Gamecock uniform report for South Carolina-Virginia Tech

On Sunday afternoon, South Carolina will play its first game of the 2025 season. The Gamecocks will take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in a neutral-site contest inside Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Shane Beamer’s team enters the game ranked 13th in both the AP poll and the USA Today coaches poll. Virginia Tech is unranked and didn’t receive any votes in either top 25 ranking.

The two teams have not played since 1991, a 28-21 victory for the Gamecocks. South Carolina hasn’t lost to VT since 1974, a span of six meetings.

Last season, South Carolina wore a number of uniform combinations, not repeating one until the 11th game of the year. On Sunday, the Gamecocks will wear a helmet-jersey-pants combination that they wore just once in 2024.

According to a post from the Gamecock Football social media team on Sunday morning, the team will wear black helmets against Virginia Tech. The Block C decal on the side of the helmet is larger, much like the one debuted on the Gamecocks’ white helmets and throwback white helmets last season.

South Carolina will wear all black in the season opener. To go with the updated black helmet, USC will wear its black jerseys and black pants with white and garnet piping.

For those who are superstitious about uniforms, the Gamecocks whipped Texas A&M wearing all-black last season. They also won their final time wearing the combination in 2023, a night game against Kentucky.

Virginia Tech announced previously that they would wear orange jerseys, orange pants, and white helmets, making Sunday’s game an orange vs. black showdown.
