New contract to be approved for South Carolina's Lamont Paris

South Carolina men’s basketball coach Lamont Paris is expected to receive a new contract, including a raise and extension, GamecockCentral.com has learned.
The university’s Board of Trustees will approve the updated agreement during a scheduled Governance Committee meeting at 9:00 a.m. EST on Friday.
Paris was recently named as the SEC Coach of the Year, having led a dramatic turnaround in year two at the helm of the Gamecocks’ basketball program.

The original deal for Paris began at an annual salary of $2.2 million per year, with $100,000 escalators each season thereafter. That contract ran through the 2026-27 season.
Paris made $2.3 million this season, making him the lowest paid men’s basketball coach in the SEC.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported some details of Paris’ expected new deal with South Carolina on Thursday morning.

According to Thamel’s report, Paris’ contract will be extended through the 2029-30 season and will average over $4 million annually.
Last month, GamecockCentral.com reported that there had already been some preliminary conversations regarding a new agreement for Paris.
Paris had been reported as a candidate for the open Ohio State job during the season, as the Buckeyes parted ways with Chris Holtmann.
Heading into the SEC Tournament, South Carolina currently sits at 25-6, including a 13-5 mark in conference play.
