South Carolina injury report: Four to miss start of preseason camp

The start of South Carolina’s preseason football camp is less than 24 hours away and Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer gave the latest on his team’s injuries Thursday during a preseason press conference, announcing four players will miss the start of camp and possibly longer.
“Ryan Brubaker, Caleb Williams, Jaylen Brown, and Zahbari Sandy will not be active tomorrow,” Beamer said Thursday. “As far as their timetable to return, right now I don’t have one for you; it’s not going to be any time in the near future and we’ll see how things evolve as we get into the season and go into the season but those guys won’t be out there tomorrow and it’s not a short-term thing with those guys. But they’ll be fine and going to be great players for us here at Carolina. Other than that, we’re in a really good position, been a great summer, and can’t wait to get started.”

Brown, Brubaker, and Williams had known injuries dating back to the spring when they missed time then. Sandy’s inclusion on the injury report is new.

Absent from the injury report were guard Nick Sharpe and tight end Michael Smith, a positive sign for the recovery of both. Sharpe missed most of the spring with a lower body injury while Smith missed the entire spring while rehabbing.
The Gamecocks reported for camp on Thursday with the first preseason practice set for Friday morning.
