Wednesday injury report: Two doubtful for Ole Miss game

South Carolina tight end and special teams standout Maurice Brown II, the lone player Shane Beamer said Saturday was injured in the Alabama game, is expected to be available for this weekend’s matchup with Ole Miss.
But two additional players are doubtful according to Wednesday’s SEC availability report.
Wide receiver Jayden Sellers and defensive back Buddy Mack III are both listed as doubtful. Offensive lineman Cason Henry, who is out for the season, is of course listed as out.
Sellers, the younger brother of quarterback LaNorris Sellers, had been emerging over the last two games. He was South Carolina’s leading receiver two weeks ago against Oklahoma and started against Alabama.
Sellers even met with the media on Tuesday and showed no signs of injury, though he did admit how physical the SEC can be.
The Insiders Forum: Discuss South Carolina football!
“He’s just a football player,” head coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday. “And you guys have heard me say that before. The moment is never too big for him. He just loves competing and having fun, and when the ball’s in his hands, good things happen. It’s just very natural for him. He’s an instinctive guy.”
Mack is a key contributor on the Gamecocks’ special teams.
South Carolina will be happy to have Brown back.
“We lost Moe Brown, which you guys know, what a weapon he is on special teams,” Beamer said Saturday after the game. “We lost him to an upper-body injury, I think, on the first punt, when they punted. So he didn’t play the whole game, which is a big loss, because he’s such a weapon.”
“He’s a star on every special team that we have,” Beamer added. “And then we wanted to be able to get him going a little bit more today on offense, being able to get us 10-15 plays in there. So we lost some of that from a tight end standpoint, and then certainly, we lost our best special teams player.”

The next update will be on Thursday, followed by another on Friday, and a final report 90 minutes before kickoff on Saturday.
Beamer also typically provides an injury update on his Thursday night call-in show.
Last season, the SEC approved a player availability injury report system for football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.
SEC school personnel must submit availability reports three days before each football game, with daily updates leading to a final report 90 minutes before game time. For basketball and baseball, reports are filed the night before, with an update on game day.
When schools submit injury reports, players will be designated as available, probable, doubtful, and questionable before game day. On game day, designations will be available, game-time decision or out. The model follows injury reports similar to the NFL.
The Gamecocks and Rebels are set for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday at Vaught Hemingway Stadium with ESPN carrying the action.
