Powell, who now is one of the top head coaches at the Division-II level with North Greenville, was one of the best two-way players in the history of the South Carolina baseball program. Despite playing the physically demanding position of catcher, Powell is top-5 in program history in home runs, hits, doubles, total bases, games played, and putouts. He also had a ten-year professional career, including three at the Major League Baseball level. Powell caught Dallas Braden’s 2010 perfect game with the Oakland Athletics.

Johnson, who also played at Hartsville High School, might be the best pure scorer in Gamecock history. An All-American and Wade Trophy finalist, Johnson scored a school record 24.7 points per game as a senior. She is the only USC player ever to average 20 points in three separate seasons. Johnson’s 2230 career points trail only A’ja Wilson on the South Carolina women’s basketball all-time scoring list. The 5’7″ guard then had a long professional career, too, and was a five-time WNBA All-Star.
