South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers ramping up for return to action against Missouri

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers appears set for a return this weekend, according to a joint report from On3’s Pete Nakos and Chris Low. Said Nakos, Sellers “continues to trend towards playing on Saturday at Missouri, barring a setback.”
The report also included a mention that Sellers practiced on Thursday. That backs up a Wednesday report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel and the initial label of “optimistic” from Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer on Sunday.
Sellers, a reigning All-SEC selection at quarterback from last year, exited the Gamecocks’ week three contest against Vanderbilt with an apparent injury. He suffered a head-to-head hit (one that resulted in a targeting flag) and did not return.
On Wednesday night, South Carolina released its first SEC-mandated availability report for this weekend. Sellers earned a “questionable” designation on the initial report. Joining him on the report were defensive back Judge Collier (doubtful), tight end Michael Smith (doubtful), and wide receiver Mazeo Bennett (questionable).

South Carolina enters the Mayor’s Cup showdown with a 2-1 overall record and 0-1 mark in conference play. Missouri is 3-0 but has not played an SEC contest yet. Eli Drinkwitz’s team is a betting favorite, as BetMGM gives Mizzou a 10.5-point spread at the time of this writing.

Last season, the Gamecocks got the best of the Tigers in Williams-Brice Stadium, 34-30. Sellers exploded for nearly 400 yards of offense and five touchdowns in the victory.
This year’s edition of the Mayor’s Cup will be in Columbia, Missouri at 7:00 p.m. (Eastern). ESPN will broadcast the game, while the ESPN app makes it available via streaming.
