Despite the disappointment of Saturday afternoon’s collapse in College Station, South Carolina opened Sunday as over a three-touchdown favorite in next Saturday’s matchup with Coastal Carolina.

The Gamecocks are favored by 23.5 points, according to BetMGM. The over/under has been set at 53.5 points.

This will be just the third time the two in-state schools have met in football.

South Carolina won 70-10 in the 2013 season, during the Steve Spurrier era, while the Chanticleers were still competing at the FCS level. The Gamecocks won 49-15 to open the 2018 season.

The Gamecocks (3-7, 1-7 SEC) are coming off a heartbreaking loss at Texas A&M. After building a 30-3 lead going into the half, Carolina surrendered 28 unanswered second-half points to fall 31-30. It was the largest comeback in Aggies football history.

South Carolina also has losses to Vanderbilt, Missouri, LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Ole Miss, with wins over Virginia Tech, S.C. State, and Kentucky.

A four-game Coastal Carolina winning streak came to an end Saturday when the Chanticleers fell 45-40 to Georgia Southern. Starting quarterback Samari Collier left the game with an injury and was spotted on crutches on the sidelines.

The Chanticleers are 6-4 overall and 5-2 in Sun Belt play.

Saturday’s matchup is set for a 4:15 p.m. kickoff, with the SEC Network carrying the action.
