South Carolina left-handed pitcher Aydin Palmer will return next season, he tells GamecockCentral.

Palmer made 12 appearances with the Gamecocks this season. He had an 11.42 ERA with 11 strikeouts and 11 walks in 8.2 innings of work.

Before joining South Carolina, Palmer pitched at Florence-Darlington Technical College as a freshman in 2024. In his one season with the Stingers, he went 9-3 on the mound with 77 strikeouts in 60 innings. He was named to the All-Region second team and helped the team earn a fourth-place finish in the 2024 JUCO World Series.

Palmer, a South Florence native, played at South Florence High School, where he was the 2023 4A Pitcher of the Year. He became South Florence’s all-time strikeout leader in 2023.

Palmer will have two years of eligibility remaining. He becomes the fifth player to announce his intentions to return to the Gamecocks in 2026. Senior catcher Talmadge LeCroy, freshman third baseman KJ Scobey, freshman first baseman Beau Hollins and sophomore left-hander Jake McCoy will also be back.

South Carolina is coming off its worst season in program history after finishing 28-29 (6-24 SEC) under head coach Paul Mainieri. The Gamecocks have lost 12 players to the transfer portal, which officially opened to all players on Monday, June 2. The portal will remain open until July 1.
