The first major softball recruiting weekend for the class of 2027 resulted in three new commitments for Ashley Chastain Woodard’s South Carolina softball team.

Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Carolina Forest four-star pitcher Kaysen Warehime, Atlanta (Ga.) Riverwood four-star pitcher May Weis, and Fox Lake (Wi.) Beaver Dam three-star corner infielder Kendall Fakes all announced commitments to the Gamecocks on Sunday.

Warehime, ranked the No. 148 overall prospect in her class by Softball America/On3, was the first to go public with her pledge.

“I chose South Carolina because the coaching staff was incredible to me from the start and it really felt like family!” she told GamecockCentral. “As soon as I stepped on campus it felt like home and when you feel that way you can’t pass up an opportunity like this. Just being around the girls on the team too was fun they were really nice and fun to be around! It just felt right, and I’m so glad to be a Gamecock!”

The righty is considered the No. 49 pitcher and No. 3 overall prospect in the state of South Carolina.

Next came a commitment from Weis, giving the Gamecocks a four-star lefty in the class.

“What really stood out to me about USC was the coaching staff and the culture of the program,” Weis told Softball America’s Brady Vernon. “What Coach Ash and the rest of the staff are building at USC is something truly special, and I knew right away I wanted to be a part of it.”

She is considered the No. 112 overall prospect and No. 42 pitcher in the 2027 cycle.

South Carolina capped off the big day with an announcement from a tall, lefty bat in Fakes.

“Being committed is honestly such a surreal feeling,” Fakes said. “To think that after all these years of me training and working to be where I am now is crazy. I just am so glad to have this amazing opportunity, and relieved to have found my place. South Carolina to me checked off every single box as a school. …

“What really led to my commitment was when I stepped onto campus I just got that feeling that I was home, which hearing everyone say “Welcome home” was very fitting. I’m super excited to be working with this team and coaching staff, and am so blessed and excited to be a Gamecock!”

The three new Gamecocks are the first three known pledges for the class. College coaches could begin contacting and hosting rising juniors on visits as of last Monday.

South Carolina started the recruiting window by hosting Columbia (S.C.) Gray Collegiate five-star shortstop Aspen Boulware, the No. 1 player in the country, last week.
