South Carolina softball lands transfer portal commitment from SEC catcher

South Carolina softball picked up its eighth transfer portal commit of the offseason when former Ole Miss catcher Jamie Mackay announced her commitment to the Gamecocks today.
Fresh off the program’s first Women’s College World Series, Mackay follows Ole Miss teammate Tate Davis to the Gamecocks. Mackay comes to South Carolina with one remaining season of eligibility.

Mackay spent three seasons with the Rebels. She appeared in 36 games during the team’s inaugural run to the 2025 Women’s College World Series. Her most notable moment in the trip to Oklahoma City came in a game-tying 2-RBI single in the seventh inning against Oregon.
The junior catcher started in 20 games and hit .284 on the season, scoring six runs on 19 hits and 12 RBIs. She also hit two home runs.

Mackay also started 45 games during the 2024 season, mostly in right field. In her freshman season, she appeared in 35 games, making 27 starts behind the plate. Mackay holds a career average of .262 in 252 at-bats. She also hit six home runs, 16 doubles and scored 26 runs alongside 37 RBIs.

A native of Santa Monica, California, Mackay picked up several accolades during her high school career. Mackay was a two-sport athlete in basketball and softball and two-year letterwinner for Pacifica Christian High School. She was selected to the US Women’s National Baseball team in 2019, where she was named Relief Pitcher of the Tournament during the PanAm Women’s Baseball World Cup that same year.
Mackay joins Mississippi State right-handed pitcher Josey Marron, NC State outfielder Tori Ensley, Ole Miss infielder Tate Davis, Florida infielder Alyssa Hovermale, Kennesaw State pitcher Emma Friedel, and Georgia infielder Precious Bross as members of South Carolina’s 2025 transfer class.
