South Carolina women's basketball to play two big SEC games on TV's biggest stage

On Tuesday, the South Carolina women’s basketball program announced that the Gamecocks will play some of their biggest conference matchups on television’s biggest stage.
According to the announcement, Dawn Staley’s team will appear on ABC twice in the month of February.
USC will take on Tennessee and LSU in major broadcast spots. Both the Lady Vols and Tigers are among the teams considered top challengers for South Carolina’s SEC crown. Early odds consider Kim Caldwell’s team and Kim Mulkey’s squad as two of the top five contenders in the conference.
Colonial Life Arena will host the visiting Tennessee Lady Volunteers on February 8th. The Gamecocks and Vols will tip at 3:00 p.m. The Sunday afternoon slot has been a big winner for viewers.

For the first time in the program’s history, Tennessee hasn’t won an SEC Championship (either the regular-season title or the SEC Tournament) in a decade. Meanwhile, South Carolina has won nine of the last 12 regular-season SEC Championships and nine of 11 SEC Tournaments. USC has won three National Championships since the last time Tennessee made the Final Four.

Then, on Saturday, February 14th, South Carolina will face off against the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge. The Gamecocks will go for their 18th win in a row over the Tigers in an 8:30 p.m. Valentine’s Day showdown.
This year’s contest will have a little added intrigue. Former Gamecock and Columbia native MiLaysia Fulwiley transferred to the Bayou Bengals this offseason.
Despite winning a national title three seasons ago, LSU hasn’t won an SEC Championship of any kind since the 2007-2008 regular-season crown. The Gamecocks had not yet hired Dawn Staley when that happened.
