South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley part of NFL on CBS pregame broadcast

South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley is from Philadelphia. Because of that, the three-time national championship-winning coach is a major fan of all the Philly-based professional sports teams. On Sunday, she was part of the NFL on CBS pregame NFL Today broadcast ahead of Eagles-Broncos.
Staley filmed an open for the show. Naturally, she talked up her hometown team in the video while wearing a throwback Jalen Hurts jersey from his rookie year. She also picked the Eagles to win another Super Bowl this season. You can watch the entire opening video below.
A short time later, the CBS crew conducted a pregame interview with Hurts. Analyst (and former Pro Bowl quarterback) Matt Ryan told Hurts that Staley wore his old jersey in the show’s open and asked him about his relationship with the Hall of Famer.
“Dawn has welcomed me into this city since the day I got here, even when I was not the guy,” the Eagles quarterback said. “She knew it was only a matter of time. I’ve got a lot of love for her. She represents the right way.”

Like her Eagles, Staley enters the 2025-2026 season as a championship favorite. BetMGM gives South Carolina +250 odds to bring home another trophy this year. That makes the Gamecocks a slight favorite over UConn, who sits at +260.
South Carolina will open the year on November 3rd against Grand Canyon. Before that, USC will play in preseason exhibitions against Anderson (October 24th) and North Carolina (October 30th). The first will be at Colonial Life Arena, while the border matchup between the Carolinas will be in Atlanta, Georgia.
