South Carolina women's basketball: Former Gamecock Ty Harris out for the WNBA season
Former Gamecock Tyasha Harris will miss the rest of the WNBA season after undergoing surgery on her left knee.
Harris first injured her knee during the preseason and did not play in the Wings’ preseason games. She returned for the beginning of the regular season and played in five games before re-injuring her knee in the first half against Connecticut on May 27.
Harris and the Wings initially hoped the injury was minor, but she was unable to play again and underwent successful surgery on Tuesday.
Harris averaged 5.2 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.0 rebounds in her five games. She had a career year last season for Connecticut, averaging 10.5 points, 3.0 assists, and 1.8 rebounds, all career-highs.

The news came just days after another former Gamecock, Laeticia Amihere, was signed by Golden State. They are two of ten former Gamecocks currently in the WNBA.
As a freshman, Harris was the starting point guard on the 2017 national championship team. She finished her career as South Carolina’s all-time leader in assists. Harris was drafted by Dallas in 2020.
After two seasons in Connecticut that revived her career, she returned to the Wings in an offseason trade. She will be a free agent after this season.
