South Carolina women's basketball: Four Gamecocks make preseason watch lists

The WBCA and USBWA announced their awards watch lists this week, and four different Gamecocks were recognized.
Ta’Niya Latson and Joyce Edwards were named to the Wade Trophy watch list.
The Wade Trophy is awarded by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and goes to the best player in college basketball. A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston are former Wade Trophy winners.
Latson, Edwards, and Raven Johnson were named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch lists.

The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is given to the player of the year by the US Basketball Writers Association. Dawn Staley (twice), Wilson, and Boston are former winners. It is not to be confused with the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award that is given to the best shooting guard.

Freshman Agot Makeer was named to the Tamika Catchings Award watch list. The Tamika Catchings Award is given to the national freshman of the year by the USBWA. Boston won the award in 2020.
Latson, Edwards, and Johnson are also on the preseason Naismith Trophy watch list.
The Gamecocks also put a player on all five watch lists for the Hall of Fame’s position awards. Johnson (point guard), Latson (shooting guard), Maryam Dauda (small forward), Edwards (power forward), and Madina Okot (post), made those top 20 watch lists.
