South Carolina women's basketball: Gamecocks add nonconference opponent

South Carolina has added a trip to Florida Gulf Coast to its nonconference schedule, according to an announcement by the Eagles.
South Carolina will play Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers on December 20 at 2:00 pm. Broadcast information will be announced later. Tickets are on sale now.
“This program has a proud history of competing with the best, and we’re excited to keep building on that tradition,” FGCU coach Raina Harmon said in a release. “Coach Staley and the Gamecocks have pushed the game forward for the past decade, and it’s an honor to bring them to Alico Arena!”
Florida Gulf Coast went 30-4 last season and swept the Atlantic Sun regular-season and tournament titles.FGCU lost to Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles lost their top five scorers from last season’s team.

The game pairs with the previously announced game at South Florida on December 18 to give the Gamecocks a quick trip to the Sunshine State before Christmas.
South Carolina played in Fort Myers last season at the Fort Myers Tipoff. That MTE was held at a different venue than FGCU’s Alico Arena.

South Carolina and Florida Gulf Coast have met just once before. The Gamecocks defeated the Eagles 65-46 in 2012 at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands.
South Carolina now has seven confirmed nonconference games.
South Carolina plays Southern Cal in Los Angeles on November 15. The Gamecocks will visit Louisville on December 4 as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge. They visit South Florida on December 18. South Carolina wraps up the nonconference schedule at home against Providence on December 28
South Carolina will play Duke and either Texas or UCLA in the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving.
The annual rivalry game against Clemson has not been confirmed, but there is no reason to think the Tigers won’t be the eighth non-conference opponent for the Gamecocks. That leaves approximately six games left to be determined.
