A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston are set to battle it out in the semifinals. Get caught up on all the Gamecocks in the WNBA.

Thursday was a big night for the former Gamecocks. Boston made the game-winning layup with 7.4 seconds left to help Indiana upset Atlanta, and then Wilson tied her playoff career-high with 38 points to hold off Seattle, the second-most points ever in an elimination game.

Now the two best players in Gamecock history will face each other for the right to play for the championship.

The first round isn’t over – Phoenix hosts New York Friday night for the right to face Minnesota – but there aren’t any more Gamecocks involved on that side of the bracket.

The best-of-five semifinal matchups are:
(1) Minnesota vs (4) Phoenix/(5) New York
(2) Las Vegas vs (6) Indiana

Atlanta Dream
Allisha Gray
Playoffs: 3 games (3 starts), 33.1 mpg, 16.0 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.0 spg

Gray struggled in Game 2, but she was tremendous in the two games in Atlanta. Unfortunately, Atlanta’s season-long inability to execute in crunch time was its undoing, as the Dream failed three times in the final eight seconds to get a decent inbound pass.

Last week:
vs Indiana (80-68 win): 35 minutes*, 20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, block
at Indiana (77-60 loss): 31 minutes*, 9 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists
vs Indiana (87-85 loss): 33 minutes*, 19 points, 12 rebounds, assist, block

Te-Hina Paopao
Playoffs: 3 games, 9.8 mpg, 6.3 ppg, 0.3 apg, 1.7 rpg, 37.5 3P%
The playoffs also ended like the rest of the season for Paopao: with us wondering why she didn’t play more. Karl Smesko yanked her after an early turnover and never put her back in until 1.2 seconds left.

Last week:
vs Indiana (80-68 win): 6 minutes, 2 points, rebound, 0-0 3PT
at Indiana (77-60 loss): 13 minutes, 11 points, rebound, steal, block, 3-5 3PT

Amihere finished the season outside of the rotation, but she still proved she is a WNBA player.

Indiana Fever
Aliyah Boston
Playoffs: 3 games (3 starts), 30.0 mpg, 12.3 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 4.7 apg, 0.0 bpg, 0.3 spg
Boston’s scoring was down against Atlanta, but she came through with a monster Game 3. She even got a technical foul for her aggressive play, which is a major statement for someone so mild-mannered. Boston finished it off with the go-ahead layup with 7.4 seconds left.

Last week:
at Atlanta (80-68 loss): 34 minutes*, 8 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists
vs Atlanta (77-60 win): 22 minutes*, 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists

at Atlanta (87-85 win): DNP-CD

Playoffs: 3 games (3 starts), 35.3 mpg, 29.3 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 3.3 apg, 2.0 bpg, 2.3 spg, 40.0 3P%
Wilson was named the WNBA co-Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday. She didn’t want to take time out from preparing for Game 3, so she had her parents, Eva and Roscoe, accept the award for her before the game.

There probably wouldn’t have been a Game 3 if Las Vegas hadn’t forgotten about Wilson during the fourth quarter of Game 2. That’s the only time Wilson didn’t dominate against Seattle.
