South Carolina women's basketball: Gamecocks in the WNBA - Week 16

With two weeks left in the regular season, teams are making a final push for the playoffs and the record books. Get caught up on all the Gamecocks in the WNBA.
Atlanta Dream (25-14)
Allisha Gray
39 games (39 starts), 35.2 mpg, 18.7 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.2 spg
Gray’s breakout season continued last week when she set the Dream’s single-season scoring record. It was previously held by Angel McCoughtry, one of the league’s all-time great scorers. Gray also set the Dream’s single-season record with 37 double-figure scoring games.
Last week:
vs Las Vegas (81-75 loss): 37 minutes*, 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists
vs Dallas (100-78 win): 36 minutes*, 19 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, steal
Te-Hina Paopao
38 games (11 starts), 16.3 mpg, 5.9 ppg, 2.3 apg, 1.6 rpg, 41.6 3P%
Just when it looked like Paopao might have hit the rookie wall – she was just 1-5 from three against Las Vegas, although she hit a clutch three to pull within one possession with 1:07 left in the game – she bounced back with 14 points and a career-high eight assists. Paopao isn’t going to win Rookie of the Year, but she’s got a good case to make the All-Rookie team.
Last week:
vs Las Vegas (81-75 loss): 24 minutes*, 5 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 1-5 3PT
vs Dallas (100-78 win): 27 minutes*, 14 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, block, 4-7 3PT
Upcoming games:
Monday, September 1 at Connecticut (1:00 ET, League Pass)
Wednesday, September 3 vs Los Angeles (7:30 ET, League Pass)
Friday, September 5 vs Los Angeles (7:30 ET, Ion/League Pass)
Chicago Sky (9-30)
Kamilla Cardoso
35 games (34 starts), 27.0 mpg, 13.3 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.0 bpg, 52.3 FG%
Despite the mounting losses, Cardoso continued her post-AmeriCup tear. She has climbed to fifth in the league in rebounding average, but arguably her biggest improvement has been her passing, highlighted by this pretty touch pass for a layup.
Last week:
vs Las Vegas (79-74 loss): 26 minutes*, 19 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, block
at Phoenix (83-79 loss): 32 minutes*, 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, steal
at Seattle (79-69 loss): 32 minutes*, 9 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks
Upcoming games:
Wednesday, September 3 vs Connecticut (8:00 ET, League Pass)
Friday, September 5 at Indiana (7:30 ET, Ion/League Pass)
Sunday, September 7 at Las Vegas (9:00 ET, NBA TV/League Pass)
Dallas Wings (9-31)
Tyasha Harris
5 games, 16.5 mpg, 4.6 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 2.6 apg, 45.5 3P%
Harris injured her left knee against Connecticut on May 27. Initially, there was optimism that it wasn’t long-term, but unfortunately, Harris underwent season-ending surgery on June 10.
Golden State Valkyries (21-18)
Laeticia Amihere
27 games, 13.7 mpg, 5.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.0 apg
Amihere’s playing time continues to fluctuate, but she fills up the box score regardless of how long she plays.
Last week:
vs Washington (99-62 win): 24 minutes, 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, assist
vs Indiana (75-63 win): 10 minutes, 4 points, 5 rebounds
Bree Hall
3 games, 4.1 mpg, 1.0 ppg, 0.7 rpg
After a rash of injuries, Golden State brought Hall back on Wednesday. Thanks to a blowout, she got to play in her first game back.
Last week:
vs Washington (99-62 win): 5 minutes, no stats
vs Indiana (75-63 win): DNP-CD
Upcoming games:
Tuesday, September 2 vs New York (10:00 ET, League Pass)
Thursday, September 4 vs Dallas (10:00 ET, League Pass)
Saturday, September 6 vs Minnesota (8:30 ET, League Pass)
Indiana Fever (21-19)
Aliyah Boston
40 games (40 starts), 30.3 mpg, 15.4 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.0 bpg, 1.0 spg, 54.5 FG%
Aside from the bizarre Golden State game (a neighborhood power outage knocked out the shot clocks and caused a lengthy delay), Boston has been huge for the depleted Fever. She had back-to-back 20-point games and a career-high six steals against Los Angeles, including the game-clincher with 1.9 seconds left. Boston also became the fastest player to reach 1,000 rebounds in Fever franchise history.
Last week:
vs Seattle (95-75 win): 27 minutes*, 27 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
at Los Angeles (76-75 win): 37 minutes*, 22 points, 11 rebounds, 6 steals, 4 assists, block
at Golden State (75-63 loss): 30 minutes*, 4 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals

Las Vegas Aces (26-14)
A’ja Wilson
36 games (36 starts), 31.2 mpg, 23.4 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 3.1 apg, 2.2 bpg, 1.6 spg
Oh, would you look at that – Wilson is leading the WNBA in scoring again. Okay, technically, Napheesa Collier is averaging 0.05 more per game, but who goes to hundredths, and Wilson has more total points. She also leads in blocks, efficiency, free throws attempted, and fantasy points, is second in rebounds and free throws made, fourth in steals, and 27th in assists. And anecdotally, every Aces possession begins with a screen from Wilson.

Seattle Storm (22-19)
Zia Cooke
26 games, 10.0 mpg, 3.5 ppg, 0.5 apg, 0.5 rpg
Cooke made a brief appearance in the blowout loss to Indiana, proving she still has some scoring punch.

at Minnesota (93-79 win): DNP-CD
vs Chicago (79-69 win): DNP-CD
Tiffany Mitchell (First 16 games with Las Vegas)
37 games (3 starts), 13.4 mpg, 3.3 ppg, 1.1 rpg
Aside from the Indiana blowout, Seattle seems to have moved Mitchell to a spot role in the rotation.
