South Carolina women's basketball: Joyce Edwards named a Player of the Year Finalist

South Carolina signee and Camden native Joyce Edwards is a finalist for the Naismith Girls’ High School Player of the Year Award.
The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced the five finalists, who also represent the All-America first-team, on Tuesday. Edwards is joined by Ohio State commit Jaloni Cambridge, UConn commit Morgan Cheli, Sarah Strong, and Aaliyah Chavez, the only junior on the list. South Carolina is recruiting Strong and Chavez.
The winner will be announced on March 8.
A’ja Wilson (2014) and Raven Johnson (2021) are former winners of the Naismith Girls’ High School Player of the Year trophy.

Edwards was an honorable mention Naismith All-American last season, behind her future teammate MiLaysia Fulwiley, who was third-team. She was also the Gatorade South Carolina basketball player of the year.

Edwards was also recognized for her multi-spot talents. She also plays volleyball and soccer and was named the 2022-23 MaxPreps all-sport national athlete of the year.
Edwards is the second-ranked overall recruit in the class of 2024. The 6-2 forward picked South Carolina following an intense recruiting battle that also included Clemson and LSU.
She is the crown jewel of South Carolina’s second-ranked signing class. The other members are point guard Maddy McDaniel and post Adhel Tac, who enrolled in January after a knee injury ended her senior season early.
