Freshman forward Sahnya Jah will be out indefinitely. South Carolina made the announcement in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, about an hour before Thursday night’s game against Missouri. She has been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.

Jah has only appeared in 16 games this season, the fewest of any player on the roster. Jah averages 3.1 points and 2.0 rebounds in 9.1 minutes in those appearances. SHe has appeared in six of the nine SEC games.

Jah was given a “week off” from practice in the preseason.

Jah was the 40th ranked recruit in the country last season. She won a high school national championship at Montverde Academy in Florida.

Despite her limited playing time, Jah’s absence comes at a bad time for the Gamecocks. Starting center Kamilla Cardoso is away from the team to play for the Brazilian national team. Their absences leave South Carolina with just nine active players.

After the game, Dawn Staley declined to specify why Jah is out, but said she has a chance to return.

“It will be day-by-day,” Staley said. “She’ll work towards getting closer to coming back, but it wil be day-to-day.”
