South Carolina women's basketball star named national player of the week
South Carolina women’s basketball star Ta’Niya Latson had a huge showing last week for the Gamecocks. For her efforts, the United States Basketball Writers Association named her one of their national players of the week.
Joining Latson on the USBWA team of the week are Maggie Doogan (Richmond Spiders), Azzi Fudd (UConn Huskies), Ava Heiden (Iowa Hawkeyes), and Clara Strack (Kentucky Wildcats).
NEW! Message board for South Carolina Women’s Basketball!
The Gamecock senior certainly earned her spot on the USBWA national team of the week. Latson helped lead South Carolina to a pair of blowout wins over Winthrop and Queens. She averaged 24.0 points on 77.3% shooting efficiency, while adding 4.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. Latson also made 66.7% of her 3-point attempts.
On the season, Latson is averaging 18.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. She is shooting an uber-efficient 60% from the field and 45.5% from the 3-point line.
Latson has scored in double figures in every game of the South Carolina season so far. That has come despite the Gamecocks being up big (and, thus, not needing starters to play as many minutes) in several of those contests.
