South Carolina got its second commitment of the 2026 class on Monday evening. What does the addition of Kaeli Wynn mean for the Gamecocks?

California Girls

Landing Wynn suggests South Carolina might have finally cracked the California hoops scene. The Gamecocks have done well at home, in the southeast, northeast, midwest, and even in Texas, but they had never landed a high school player from California (Destiny Littleton and Te-Hina Paopao, the only two California players in program history, were transfers).

Assistant coach Wendale Farrow spent most of his professional career in California, and his familiarity with West Coast basketball is one of the reasons Staley brought him in. Farrow, who also reportedly has a strong relationship with Jerzy Robinson, appears to be paying dividends already.

Wynn joined Robinson on Robinson’s official visit. Getting a commitment from Wynn can only help the Gamecocks when it comes to landing Robinson.

Dawn Staley still has pull, despite what you heard

There was never any merit to the narrative that Staley can’t recruit, but that didn’t silence it any. Wynn should put a big dent in it.

Despite being across the country, Wynn appears to have only considered two programs: South Carolina and Stanford. She’s not a local kid staying home at her dream school. Wynn is a five-star who believed in Staley’s message that South Carolina wins championships and puts players in the WNBA.

The signing class is shaping up

South Carolina’s first commitment came from Kelsi Andrews, a 6-4 forward/post. Wynn gives Staley forward/wing. If she can add a guard, that gives the Gamecocks a commitment at all three levels.

It would be nice to add a point guard, but not necessary. South Carolina appears set there for two more years with Maddy McDaniel.

Given Andrews’ injury history, South Carolina probably needs another big. However, the potential returns next year of Chloe Kitts and Ashlyn Watkins for their fifth seasons are better than any remaining recruit.
