South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers lands premium spot on SEC preseason quarterback rankings

Months before the first snap of the 2025 season, South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers is already making waves.
On Wednesday, CBS Sports college football analyst Josh Pate released his SEC Preseason QB rankings. Sellers found himself rounding out the top three after making national headlines last season. At No. 3, Sellers sits behind Florida’s DJ Lagway and Texas’ Arch Manning on Pate’s list.

The redshirt sophomore Sellers was named the SEC Freshman of the Year after a standout 2024 season, while both Lagway and Manning spent part of the year (or most of the year in the case of Manning) as backups. Sellers was more productive than both, logging more total yards of offense than Lagway and Manning combined and the same number of touchdowns.
A rising sophomore out of Texas, Lagway led the Gators to an 8-5 2024 season, playing in 12 out of the 13 matchups. The 6-foot-3 righty threw for a 59.9% completion rate with 12 touchdowns and 1,915 yards last season.
On the other hand, Manning spent 2024 battling with 7th-round draft pick Quinn Ewers. Manning threw for just under 1,000 yards at 939 with 9 touchdowns compared to two interceptions. Texas made the College Football Playoff, but Manning did not attempt a postseason pass.
Rounding out the top five on Pate’s list are LSU’s Garret Nussmeier and Oklahoma’s John Mateer.
